EARLY RECRUITING

NEW NCAA RULE

NO CONTACT or COMMUNICATION with a college coach before Sept. 1 of prospective student-athlete's junior year in high school

NEW RULE:  In April 2017, the NCAA approved landmark early recruiting legislation for men's and women's lacrosse that went into effect immediately.  The legislation is intended to delay the early recruiting process until September 1 of a prospective student-athlete's ("PSA") junior year in high school.

OFF-CAMPUS CONTACTS

Off-campus recruiting contacts shall NOT be made with an individual (or his or her relatives or legal guardians) before September 1 at the beginning of his or her junior year in high school.  Contacts that occur during a PSA's junior year may occur only at the PSA's educational institution or residence.

TELEPHONE CALLS

Institutional staff members may NOT receive telephone calls from an individual (or his or her legal guardians) before September 1 at the beginning of his or her junior year in high school.

UNOFFICIAL VISITS

An unofficial visit with athletics department involvement (e.g. contact with athletics department staff, athletics-specific tour, complimentary admission) shall NOT occur with an individual (or his or her relatives or legal guardians) before September 1 at the beginning of his or her junior year in high school.

CAMP OR CLINIC

Recruiting conversations during an institutional camp or clinic are NOT permitted between an institution's coach and a participating PSA before September 1 at the beginning of the PSA's junior year in high school.

13. 1.1.1. 5  Exception - Lacrosse.  In lacrosse, off-campus recuiting contacts shall not be made with an individual (or his or her relatives or legal guardians) before September 1 at the beginning of his or her junior year in high school.  Contcts that occur during a prospective student-athlete's junior year may occur only at the PSA's educational institution or residence.  (Adopted: 4/14/17,  Revised: 4/26/17 - Effective 8/1/17)

 

13. 1. 3. 2. 2.  Telephone Calls Initiated by PSA at His or Her Expense - Sports Other Than Lacrosse.  In sports other than lacrosse, institutionsl staff members may receive telephone calls placed by a PSA at the PSA's own expense at any time, inlcuding before September 1 at the beginning of the PSA's junior year in high school.
